Kapitel: 4.1 → Biogeochemische und biogeophysikalische Effekte von Landnutzungsänderungen

Dieter Kasang & Sebastian Bathiany

Summary

Biogeochemical and biogeophysical effects of land use changes: For thousands of years, humans have not only been changing their immediate environment, but also influencing the climate, especially through the conversion of forests into cropland and pasture. Two fundamentally different processes must be distinguished: a) the biogeochemical impacts due to the emission of greenhouse gases and b) the biogeophysical impacts due to changes in the land surface. This article explains their climatic consequences and attempts a quantitative estimate of the changes in global as well as regional temperature caused by anthropogenic land use. It concludes by asking whether land-use changes can limit anthropogenic climate change.
