About the History of Urban Climatology:
The article illuminates more than 2000 years of urban climate research and highlights the eventful history of this part of environmental meteorology by presenting various milestones. It were probably the Indians and Romans who first addressed the problem of overheating and, in particular, air pollution in their up-and-coming urban settlements.
The growing cities of the Middle Ages received considerable attention for their urban climatic problems. After times of predominantly descriptive urban climate research, the development of technology allowed a more analytical and ultimately model-oriented study of this anthropogenic climate type in recent times.
