Weather extremes: A historical overview
The following overview article names some striking meteorological and hydrological extreme events in the time range from days to seasons. The regional focus is Central Europe.
After a review of hard and mild winters and cold and hot summers, precipitation extremes are discussed. One focus of the contribution is flooding. Also noted are landslides and avalanches, as well as storms, lightning and hailstorm events.
It is emphasized that dramatic individual events should not prematurely call for climate change.
