Land-use change and regional extreme weather events using the example of Northern Germany:
Humans are faced with both a changing climate and a fast changing land-use in the imediate vicinity. Both factors play an important role concerning extreme weather events.
By means of examples from Northern Germany, the influence of land-use on extreme weather events such as heavy precipitation events or temperature extremes are shown. Results of computer modelling of the atmosphere are used to study the combination of both, land-use change and regional climate change.
Here, it became evident that interactions between atmosphere and land-use should be taken into account when planning urban development or adaption strategies to climate change.
