Griechenland: Hitze, Brände und Hochwasser 2023

Immer wieder wüten Waldbrände in Griechenland, aber im Sommer 2023 war es außergewöhnlich, weil es vor allem Regionen betroffen hat, die teilweise noch ein intaktes Ökosystem mit viel Wald und sogar Nationalparks beherbergen und auch sehr viel Landwirtschaft betrieben wird. Extrem hohe Temperaturen gepaart mit Waldbränden bilden einen gefährlichen »Cocktail« nicht nur für Ökosysteme, sondern auch für die Menschen.

Extremniederschläge und daraus folgende Hochwasser verändern und beeinflussen nicht nur die landwirtschaftliche Produktion, sondern vernichten Infrastruktur und »Hab und Gut« der Menschen, darüber hinaus haben sie Einfluss auf die psychische Gesundheit. Der Sommer 2023 war für Griechenland ein »Verrückter Sommer« und die betroffenen Regionen und auch die Menschen müssen mit den Wetterextremen und dem anthropogenen Klimawandel zurechtkommen.

Greece: Heat, fires and floods in 2023

Forest fires are a regular occurrence in Greece, but the summer of 2023 was exceptional because it mainly affected regions that are home to an intact ecosystem, with a lot of forests and even national parks, as well as agriculture. Extreme temperatures coupled with forests fires form a dangerous cocktail not only for ecosystems, but also for people.

Extreme rainfall and flooding not only change and influence agricultural production, but also destroy infrastructure and people’s belongings, as well as having an impact on mental health. The summer of 2023 was a »crazy summer« for Greece and the affected regions and people have to cope with weather extremes and anthropogenic climate change.

Los incendios forestales son recurrentes en Grecia, pero el verano de 2023 fue excepcional porque afectó sobre todo a regiones que albergan un ecosistema intacto, con muchos bosques e incluso muchos parques nacionales, además de mucha agricultura. Las temperaturas extremas unidas a los incendios forestales forman un »cóctel« no sólo para los ecosistemas, sino también para las personas.

Las precipitaciones extremas y las inundaciones no sólo cambian e influyen en la producción agrícola, sino que también destruyen las infraestructuras y las posesiones de las personas, además de repercutir en la salud mental. El verano de 2023 fue un »verano loco« para Grecia y las regiones afectadas, y también las personas tienen que hacer frente a los extremos climáticos y al cambio climático antropogénico.
