Forschungsinstitute und chemische Industrie entwickeln eine breite Palette an Herstellungsverfahren, um aus Kohlendioxid Kunststoffe herzustellen. Gelingt die Skalierung der Prozesse, lassen sich schon bald Erdöl, Erdgas und Kohle als Kohlenstoff-Lieferanten für Polymere zumindest teilweise ersetzen.

Research institutes and the chemical industry are developing a wide range of manufacturing processes to produce plastics from carbon dioxide. If the processes can be scaled up, it will soon be possible to replace crude oil, natural gas and coal as carbon suppliers for polymers.

Los institutos de investigación y la industria química están desarrollando una amplia gama de procesos de fabricación para producir plásticos a partir del dióxido de carbono. Si los procesos pueden ampliarse, pronto será posible sustituir al petróleo, el gas natural y el carbón por lo menos parcialmente como proveedores de carbono para los polímeros.
