Marine chemistry and climate change:

Marine chemistry deals with reactions of seawater constituents either purely chemical or mediated by biological agents. In this chapter origin and behaviour of the major ions are briefly described. The main emphasis is on the oceanic carbon system and its role in global climate change.

The major reactions of the carbon cycle in the sea are described. A review of suggested technical solutions for the mitigation of increasing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere utilising the peculiarities of the carbon reactions in seawater is presented.
